iPhones 5, 5S and 5C – what’s the difference?

In fifth generation there are three versions of Apple device. Is the difference between them really big? If you have doubts, what model is the best choice, let’s look at their design and capacities.

First of all, let’s consider appearance. Both devices – 5 and 5S – have the same characteristics of mass, width, thickness and height. Weight constitutes 112 g, length – 123.8 mm, width – 58.6mm, thickness – 7.6 mm. iPhone 5 is made only in two variations: black and white. His successor has 3 colors: white, gold (champagne) and dark grey. We see, that Apple added gold case, designed to dilute the boring monochrome color of the previous models. And designers also decided to abandon the black, replacing it with a dark gray performance. 5С has slightly different characteristics – 124, 4 x 59, 2 x 8, 97 mm, it is bigger than other models and weighs 132 g. Phone case of 5 and 5S phones is made of aluminum, and for 5C polycarbonate was used. What about color, iPhone 5C is available in yellow, green, blue, red or white.

Display is the same in all cases – 4 inches, IPS matrix, resolution is 1136 x 640 pixels, 326 ppi.

As for processor, iPhone 5 and 5C have chip A6 with two cores which operate at frequency 1.3 HHC but for iPhone 5S with A7 chip. iPhone 5S works at 64-bit architectonics.

In case of memory RAM is 1 GB, 5 and 5 S come in versions of 16, 32 and 64 GB, 5 C comes only with 16 and 32 GB.

Designers made some improvements to camera on iPhone 5S. What is common for the models, is 8 MP resolution, LED flash, auto-focus. Video recording is 1080p with frequency of 30 frames per second. The front facing camera has 1.2 megapixels. Video recording is 720p with picture frequency 30 frames per second. As to 5S, its aperture is f/2.2.; it has double LED True Tone and burst mode 10 frames per second. The first LED gives a warm light, the second - cold. This technique helps to get a more natural color close to the original. Engineers say that the rear module of 5S has been radically redesigned. The pixel size is reduced to 1.5 microns. In theory, this should give a bright and colorful picture in all lighting conditions. 5S has also function of video recording 720p Slo-Mo with frequency 120 frames per second. iPhone 5S also has optical stabilization.

As for sensors, iPhone 5 and 5C have accelerometer, gyroscope, and digital compass. 5 S has motion processor M7.

The battery in 5S also increased, bringing the capacity up to 1500 mAh. Given the optimized OS, the charge should be enough for a couple of days of work. Time of work in standby mode is up to 250 hours in case of iPhone 5S and 5C, while iPhone 5 had only 225 hours. Total talk time, in theory, increased by 2 hours, ie from 8 to 10.

There are some differences between 5 and 5S versions concerning interface. iPhone 5S has the opportunity to choose a course of actions for an incoming call, for example to use the option of the call reminder. Experts also point out some changes in the camera control interface. Program elements operating this hardware component became primarily easier. Corresponding buttons have more convenient location.

One of the bonuses on the iPhone 5s is that engineers have installed a scanner that reads a fingerprint, a new technology called Touch ID. To use them, you need to make a number of settings – set password access to the system, and then – as a barrier to entry to the interface – to put a fingerprint.

So, we can see that iPhone 5 and 5S have a range of differences, as improvements in camera, processor, battery, interface and new technology Touch ID. 5C comes as a budget version; its technical characteristics are quite the same as in iPhone 5, only appearance is different.
